Margate Bookie – My Family and Other Secrets, 29 Sept
September 29 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm£6
I’m off for a jaunt to the seaside at the end of September and to my favourite Victorian resort, Margate. I’ll be appearing at the Bookie Festival in person and in the the Turner Contemporary in the form of a shine, you’ll have to come along to find out more! It’s always interesting to meet writers exploring similar themes to my own work so I’m really looking forward to speaking with Roopa Farooki and Alice Fitzgerald. Here’s the festival blurb and you can follow the link for tickets:
Meet three writers whose books are about difficult dads, manipulative mums and the trials (and joys!) of being a second generation immigrant. Roopa Farooki discusses The Good Children, about a monstrous mother’s browbeating her offspring into ‘ideal kids’. Jess Kidd talks about the inspiration behind The Hoarder, set in a house collapsing under the weight of its terrible memories. And Alice Fitzgerald tells us about Her Mother’s Daughter, a dark tale about how family deceit proves too much for one mother and her 10-year-old daughter. Join us for readings, author questions and lots of talking.
